I am nervous.
I am scared.
I am anxious
The current state of our nation, and the direction it is headed terrifies me to my very core. Gone are the days of American Pride, humble yet passionate politicians, and concerned informed citizens.
Now we have a circus.
I often wonder if the forefathers who gave so much in shaping our Country, look down upon us now, shaking their heads in disbelief at what we have become. All the blood that was shed, sacrifices made, lives lost, do they even mean anything anymore?
A phrase that has been used frequently through out the past few months by one of our Presidential candidates is, Make America Great Again.
Friend. America is STILL great.
Her greatness is seen in the soldier sacrificing comfort, family, and even his or her life to defend what they believe in.
Her greatness shines in the chaos of tragedy, when despite race, religion, or gender, we step up and help our fellow man.
Her greatness can be found in the tears of her citizens as the anthem is played and her flag waves in the winds of victory.
Her greatness is on display at the Tomb of The Unknown Soldier as it guarded through brutal heat, fierce rain, and unrelenting cold twenty-four hours a day by men who never complain or don’t show up.
But there are those that seek to divide rather then unite. Personal agendas, intolerance, and paranoia are slowly making their way in. By and by we have forgotten what our Founding Fathers fought so hard for.
These principles STILL hold true…if WE hold on to them.
Fear of the world around us, disagreements with those who are not like us, and anxiety of the unknown, have caused great trouble and tension among us.
These are the times we MUST stand together…United.
Abraham Lincoln said it best:
“America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms it is because we destroyed ourselves.”
NO our nation does not need to be made great again. It is her citizens who need the adjustment.
We need to push aside personal agendas.
We need to respect EVERY citizen whether our beliefs are the same or not.
We need to remember our history, teach it to our children, and instill in them, the love, respect, and honor that comes from living in this great land.
And Yes, I firmly believe we need to get back to the values of our Founding Fathers.
In order for that to happen we MUST be informed citizens.
We MUST take part.
We CANNOT base our judgments on someone’s popularity, slick and dramatic words, or propaganda.
When it becomes “US against US” we have failed and are headed for disaster. A great leader will not divide us by exploiting our differences, but UNITE us despite them.
I LOVE my country. I LOVE our History. We are rich in diversity. But we fail to embrace it. You may not believe the way I do, and I may not believe the way you do, but that does not need to be a cause for disharmony. If all the singers in a chorus sang the same part how dull would that sound? Instead, there are different parts. Singing together in harmony. That is what makes it beautiful!
“While the storm clouds gather,
Far across the sea,
Let us swear allegiance
To a land that is free;
Let us all be grateful
For a land so fair,
As we raise our voices
In a solemn prayer
God Bless America,
Land that I love.
Stand beside her and guide her
Through the night, with the light from above.
From the mountains, to the prairies,
To the oceans white with foam.
God Bless America,
My home Sweet Home!”
