My Own Book

Albert Einstein once wrote, “There comes a  point in your life when you need to stop reading other people’s books and write your own.”

We love seeking advice from folks. Especially if they have tackled something we haven’t yet.

“How was the new restaurant in town?”
“Is that new Tom Cruise movie worth seeing”
“What are your thoughts on the new Oreo flavor?”

We listen. We read. And we Ruminate over the responses we receive. Then ultimately, we base our own opinions off the opinions of others. We fail to experience for ourselves what is truly out there. Continue reading

Irreplaceable

“What is wrong with you????”

This was the question thrown at me today at lunch when someone found out I was a 42 year old single woman.  When I told them I had never been married and didn’t have any prospects, they reacted as though I had just told them I ate small children for breakfast. Continue reading

I Am, I Am, I Am

I am a big fan of fruit.  There is just something enticingly yummy about a big apple, grapefruit, or orange. However, there is nothing worse then anticipating a big Juicy bite, to only find a hollow, dry, and un-tasty mess.

The fact that I am a big ole nerd has never been a hidden fact. I love to watch PBS, listen to NPR, and yes, I absolutely ADORE reading the classics. Perhaps I am what is classified as an old soul. Continue reading

Going Scared

I am going to let you in on a little secret….

I am a big fat chicken.

If you and I are together in a terrifying situation, chances are you are going to sacrifice me so that you can survive. That is just how annoying I can be.

Being dramatic by nature, I tend to overreact to EVERYTHING. Once when my sister passed out during the benediction of our church service, I instantly started screaming, “HELP! SHE IS DYING!” Of course my sister was not dying, and my mother, who is the calmest person on the planet, was horrified by the attention we received. Continue reading

A Masterpiece

Do you ever catch yourself repeating the same phrase over and over, and OVER again? You know, one of those pesky little sayings that really is not meant to be a fact statement, but you say it so much, that eventually over time you start to believe it?

Anyone?????

If so, then this post if for you.  If not….read it anyway because, well, let’s face it….. you know you really do what I am talking about. Continue reading

Like A Champ

I haven’t written much lately.  Life has come at me pretty hard and I feel like I have been Bludgeon to a bloody lump. So much time has been spent riding the wave of the high I was on, that I completely forgot that I am still human and that sucky things still happen.

Of course when I get all down and out, I turn to my faith for guidance, encouragement, and inspiration. So much can be learned by just spending time alone with the Almighty. It amazes me the different ways that God can speak to me….The majesty of the beauty of nature, His words in the Bible, the love and support of family and friends, and Rocky Balboa. Continue reading

Dancing In The Rain

It happened again this weekend.  While pushing my cart around the grocery store I ran into someone I hadn’t seen in years.   Of course we exchanged pleasantries and then…. it happened…… THE question everyone likes to ask….

“So, are you married?”

When I reply with a simple “No” the look I get is always the same. Continue reading

No One Is Youer Than You

“Today you are you…that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is youer than you.” Dr. Seuss

How wonderful are those words? I know I have quoted him in a hundred Blog post, but Dr. Seuss is my go to guy when I need a little realistic boost. Maybe it is because my brain is simple, or perhaps he is just really, really wise.

Do you ever just find it hard to be yourself?   Each and every day we are constantly reminded by the world that we aren’t smart enough, pretty enough, thin enough, rich enough, or even loved enough. We are told to act, dress, and think a certain way to meet others standards. Continue reading

The Good Stuff

“You will miss the best things if you keep your eyes shut.” Dr. Seuss

I love scavenger hunts. Yes, I am 41 years old, but I LOVE to go on the hunt for some object, prize, or treasure. There is just something thrilling to me about having a target and then painstakingly searching for it. Sometimes I have clues that guide me to what I am looking for, and sometimes I don’t even know what it is I  am seeking until I find it.

One of the most important aspects of a good scavenger hunt is keeping your eyes Open at all times. If you get distracted, groggy, or lazy….you’re going to miss out on what it is you are looking for. Continue reading
